Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream Recipe

Nutrient rich  matcha green tea vegan 'ice cream' with banana, coconut and avocado

So inspiration for tonight's experiments in the kitchen came from two experiences today.

One: I tried an awesome matcha and avocado smoothie at the groovy Smith street tea bar Storminateacup

The other from when I was browsing Daiso and came across some ice cream molds. If you don't know what Daiso is, it's basically the Japanese $2 shop, but everything is $2.80 and they have a lot of different stuff, from homewares, stationary, kitchen stuff and a bunch of other crap. Typically everything you buy breaks the second you get it home but it's only $2.80 so who cares right? So I grabbed my plastic mold in order to make some matcha green tea ice cream later and was on my merry way.

Now I've never actually made green tea ice cream before, so wasn't sure what to expect. I didn't have a recipe and to be honest these turned out a bit 'icy-er' than as creamy as I had hoped. But they were still delicious, and went perfectly as an after dinner sweet. The avocado, banana and coconut all worked well together and paired well with the green tea flavor. These green tea ice cream treats are vegan(I love the vegans no matter what anyone says about them), raw, full of healthy fats from the coconut and avocado and packed with antioxidants from the matcha and fruit.

Ingredients for green tea ice cream

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 an avocado
  • Juice from one coconut and about 50g of shaved fresh coconut
  • 1 large banana
  • 20g ofcooking grade matcha powder (yes I used a lot.)
  • 1 granny smith apple
  • A handful of ice cubes
  • Squeeze of lemon

Method:

There isn't one, I just threw it all in the blender then poured it into the ice cream moulds.

After this step I put them in the freezer, but sadly no photo was taken. Here is a few once they came out of the freezer:

(ps. These photos are all from my phone, if you want to see better quality photos in the future buy some matcha tea and I could afford a better camera)

No the photo isn't staged, I always eat ice cream like that.

First matcha purchase!

So far I have made tea cookies, raw nut/fruit balls, smoothies, and plain matcha with cashew milk and it's all good to me! Don't have much to compare it to but a chain coffee shop latte experience years ago. I learned the amazing benefits that make the cost of matcha well worth the price.

I have yet to receive my order

This review is not about the quality of the set, but based on my customer service experience. Placed my order on April 13th, got shipping notification on April 14th, and the last shipping notification I got was April 16th saying USPS was awaiting the item in Buena Vista, CA. Emailed customer service April 22nd and received a response the same day from a member of your team saying he would inform me once he receives info from usps. I also contact usps and they stated they have no information regarding the package. As of today, April 27th, I have yet to receive any information about my order. This was meant as a gift that will now be late. Was very excited to try the set and the matcha, but this experience makes me doubt if I will order from Kenko again, unfortunately. Would appreciate this problem being solved as soon as possible. Thank you.
