I've been meaning to make a cacao smoothie lately. If you haven't tried Cacao, it's like chocolate, but healthy. Well not exactly, it's much more unprocessed, and not mixed with huge amounts of sugar so don't expect it to taste like Cadbury's or anything. This smoothie is PACKED with antioxidants from the matcha and cacao and FILLED with healthy fats from the cacao and coconut milk. It's hard to believe something this good is good for you!
Cacao does have a chocolaty flavor but slightly nutty and fruity flavor as well. I used Raw Cacao Nibs from Big Tree Farms - they have a little coconut palm nectar on them, so they are slightly sweet compared to straight cacao. They are raw, organic, vegan, and processed below 40c. Big Tree Farms also claim to be the only truly 'raw' processed cacao in the world, so no nutrients are lost during their production.
What's even better is that cacao is a potent superfood in it's own right - packed with antioxidants and other good stuff like like magnesium, fiber, zinc and iron. Cacao has been reported to enhance mood, help regulate blood sugar, improve healthy cholesterol levels.
Paired with matcha and you have a super potent, antioxidant rich, healthy, nutritious smoothie that tastes great, keeps you satiated and makes you feel amazing. Make one in the morning for a healthy kick start to your day!
- 1 banana sliced
- Handful of Fresh mint
- 4 Ice Cubes
- Handful of Raw Cacao Nibs
- Squeeze of fresh lime
- 1/4 cup Coconut milk
- Dash of mango orange juice
- 3 grams of Kenko Cooking Grade matcha tea
- Pick and wash your mint leaves
- Put all ingredients in the blender (save some mint and cacao to garnish)
- Pour into a glass
- Garnish with remaining mint leaves, lime wedge and cacao nibs.
- Sit back, drink and enjoy!
